Food - Saint Elizabeth Regional School has a food service under contract with the National School Lunch Program and is available to the students and faculty. Government regulations require a “Wellness Plan” be formulated and incorporated in all areas for the upcoming school year. The purpose of the policy is to provide knowledge for healthy eating choices as well as awareness for the need of daily physical activity. Government regulations for nutritionally balanced meals are adhered to daily. The food service director does the planning of the menus. All the food is prepared on the school premises. Food is served five days a week. Students have the option of buying their lunch or bringing a lunch from home. Drinks and snacks are sold daily.
Health - A school nurse, who is employed by the Whitehall-Coplay School District, provides health services. The school nurse is available one morning a week. On the other days the office staff provides care for the students. The health records are stored in a locked closet in the faculty room, which serves as the nurse’s room on the day she is at school. Health services provided by the school nurse include: first aid, height, weight, body mass index (BMI) vision screening, auditory screening, dental and physical screening, and scoliosis screening.
Guidance - The classroom teachers, administration and staff of the school offer guidance on a daily basis. The Carbon-Lehigh Intermediate Unit 21 provides a counselor one morning a week for formal guidance services. The guidance records are filed with the school counselor and are not stored with the official school records. Academic consultation is provided to the school through the use of the Carbon-Lehigh Intermediate Unit 21 Instructional Support Team (IST) model. This model involves the IU staff, school principal, teacher, mathematics teacher, reading teacher, and parents. The team identifies the problem and develops an intervention plan. The teacher and parents monitor progress. A follow-up meeting is scheduled for evaluation or modification of the intervention plan.
Special Services - Saint Elizabeth Regional School has assistance from the Carbon-Lehigh Intermediate Unit 21 and Whitehall-Coplay School District for students who have academic difficulty. The areas that are serviced are: mathematics, reading, and speech. These services are coordinated with the classroom teacher to provide maximum benefit for the students following the consent of the parents. The faculty adapts the class work for students who need assistance. Students may be referred for private tutoring.
